In an era where technology drives global innovation, digital literacy is no longer a luxury, it is a fundamental necessity.
Recognizing a critical gap in computer literacy among secondary school students within Ward 10 of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Adelowo Michael popularly known as CODED, the Honorable Supervisory Councillor for Information and ICT stepped forward to launch a transformative initiative.

Driven by the realization that many students approaching their WAEC and NECO examinations possessed little to no practical knowledge of computers and basic operations, Hon. CODED initiated a comprehensive 3-month free computer training program tailored specifically for SS2 and SS3 students.

The vision behind the program is clear: to ensure that local students can compete favorably with their peers nationwide amidst rapid technological advancements.
Starting the classes a few months ago consists of 10 lucky beneficiaries, who officially commenced their classes on May 1st, 2026, and successfully concluded their rigorous training on July 31st, 2026.

To ensure accessibility and effective learning, the program was hosted across two designated training centers located in Lanlate. Throughout the three months, students were taken through a robust curriculum designed to build both foundational and intermediate digital skills.
Courses Covered are:
Microsoft Word: Document creation, formatting, and professional editing.
Microsoft PowerPoint: Designing engaging and dynamic presentations.
Microsoft Excel (Introductory): Spreadsheet fundamentals, data entry, and basic calculations.
Corel Draw (Intermediate): Graphic design principles and vector illustration.
Internet Usage: Safe browsing, research skills, and online navigation.
Fast Typing: Developing speed and accuracy for academic and professional efficiency.
Reflecting on his motivation for the project, Hon. CODED shared an inspiring personal journey. He revealed that he was once a beneficiary of a similar free computer training program in Lagos State shortly after his secondary school education.
That life changing opportunity was sponsored by Hon. Joseph Ajatta Jaiyeola, the Honorable Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II of Lagos State at the time.

”That single act of kindness equipped me with computer literacy that has sustained and propelled me in every aspect of my life to this very day,” Hon. CODED noted.
He further disclosed that he has harbored the dream of replicating this exact gesture to empower the younger generation since 2007.
Today, that vision has materialized, with the first batch of 10 students successfully completing their training.
The conclusion of the training does not mark the end of the journey for the pioneer students.
As the next step, Hon. CODED announced that a comprehensive assessment test will be administered to evaluate the participants on what they were taught. The student who achieves the highest score will be rewarded with a laptop to aid their academic and technological pursuits.
Furthermore, the impact of the initiative continues to grow. Hon. CODED confirmed that the next batch of 10 beneficiaries will commence their training at the beginning of September 2026, bringing the total number of empowered students to 20. The form for the next batch of beneficiaries has been announced at Ward 10 meeting heard yesterday where the leaders, Excos and party members present at the meeting showered prayers on the initiator of a developmental program like this among the younger ones.
Through visionary leadership and a profound commitment to grassroots development, Hon. Adelowo Michael (CODED) is laying a solid technological foundation for the future leaders of Ibarapa East, proving that true community development is rooted in empowerment and continuity.
