As political conversations heat up ahead of the 2027 elections, the name of Honourable Babatunde George Ige, popularly known as BGI, continues to resonate across Ibadan South West, with many constituents describing him as a true reflection of the Yoruba adage “Iwa rere l’eso eniyan”good character is man’s beauty.
Supporters say BGI’s conduct in public and private life, his accessibility, and his consistent service to the community have set him apart among aspirants jostling for the Ibadan South West Constituency II seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
“Iwa rere l’eso eniyan. BGI does not just talk, he acts. He respects elders, listens to youths, and carries everybody along. That is the kind of person we want in the House of Assembly,” said Alhaja Sidikat Akinyemi, a marketer at Oke-Ado Market.
Across Wards 7 to 12 of Ibadan South West Local Government, residents point to BGI’s humility and omoluabi ethos as his strongest selling point. Community leaders recall how he intervened during communal disputes, supported families during bereavements, and funded free coaching classes for SS3 students without making political noise.
“He has been doing good long before politics. If you see BGI, you see a man whose character speaks for him. Iwa rere ni,” said Pa Moses Alade, a community elder in Molete.
Beyond character, constituents cite BGI’s track record. “BGI did not wait for campaign to start helping people. He believes iwa rere, good character, must show in how you treat people daily,” said Mrs. Rofiat Lawal, a resident of Challenge community .
Speaking with newsmen after a consultation meeting in Oke-Bola, Hon. Babatunde George Ige said his aspiration is anchored on service, not self.
“Iwa rere l’eso eniyan. My parents taught me that name is better than riches. If elected, I will be a legislator with character, one who listens, who is accountable, and who puts the people first,” BGI said.
The BGI Grassroots Movement said the aspirant’s character has united youths and elders across party lines. “We are tired of politics of insult and violence. BGI represents iwa omoluabi That is why we are with him,” said Kayode Aderenle .
