With party primaries fast approaching, constituents of Ibadan South West Constituency I have intensified calls for Honourable Abiodun Adekunle Baruwa to emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat, describing him as a team leader with deep knowledge of governance.
Across Wards 1 to 6 of Ibadan South West Local Government, stakeholders say the primary election is the first major hurdle, and the party must field a candidate who understands legislation, constituency needs, and the art of winning elections.
“We need a team leader, not a seat warmer. We need a man with deep knowledge as our House of Assembly Member for Ibadan South West Constituency I, and he is Honourable Abiodun Adekunle Baruwa,” said Mrs. Rukayat Lawal, a resident of Ward 5.
Party faithful argue that Baruwa’s accessibility, policy clarity, and grassroots network make him the most prepared aspirant ahead of the primaries. They insist the party cannot afford to present a candidate who will not appear at an political functions or running away fromembers in the House of Assembly.
“This primary is not about popularity alone. It is about who can deliver effective representation and defend the party’s interest. Baruwa knows the terrain, he knows the law, and he knows our people,” said Elder Sunday , a party leader in Foko.
Supporters cite Baruwa’s interventions during the 2022 pre-election time where he he brought electronic gadgets and equipments necessary for Voters Card registration , his usual Sallah gifts and New Year Package and Assitants , and his constant engagement with market associations on sanitation as evidence of competence.
Comrade Tosin Oyelade, coordinator of Ibadan South West Youth Vanguard, said: “Primaries are where we choose our best striker. Legislation, budgeting, oversight, these require deep knowledge. Hon. Abiodun Adekunle Baruwa has it. He won’t go to the House to learn; he’ll go there to work.”
