The Chairperson of the National Youth Service Corps Board in Oyo State and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, has mourned the death of a corps member serving at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Miss Abidakun Oluwatosin, who died in a road accident in Ibadan.
Oluwatosin died on Monday evening following a collision involving an articulated truck and a motorcycle conveying her and another corps member around Agodi Gardens, behind the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Ibadan.
It was gathered that the two corps members, who recently commenced their primary assignment at the Oyo State House of Assembly, were returning home after work when the truck rammed into their motorcycle. Oluwatosin died as a result of the crash, while the other corps member sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
In a condolence message, Hon. Adegoke described the incident as tragic, painful and an irreparable loss to the NYSC family in Oyo State.
She noted that it was particularly heartbreaking that the deceased had only just begun her national service, full of hopes and aspirations for the future, before her life was cut short.
Hon. Adegoke extended her heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late corps member, as well as to the management and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.
She also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured corps member who is currently hospitalized, and urged motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
