The well-attended meeting, held at Ayete, drew PDP stakeholders from across the two wards. Addressing the gathering, Hon. Akorede emphasized that his approach to governance has never been defined by office or title.

“To me, service has never been about titles. It has always been about duty, deeply rooted in the core of my being,” he told the audience.

He commended the turnout, describing it as a strong signal of the party’s grassroots strength in the area. “The impressive turnout reaffirmed my belief that the PDP remains the choice of our people and will win the forthcoming election,” he stated.

The chairman used the platform to appreciate party members for their continued backing since his emergence as council boss. He noted that their support had been central to ongoing projects and policies under his administration. “I thanked our party members and leaders for their steadfast support to this administration under my leadership as Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government. Your trust continues to drive the work we do every day,” he said.

In a key disclosure, Hon. Akorede formally informed the constituents of his decision to seek a higher platform of service. He said he would be contesting for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat for Ibarapa North and Central Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He was quick to clarify the motivation behind the move, insisting it was not driven by personal ambition. “This step is not born of personal ambition but of a deep responsibility to amplify your voice and consolidate the gains we have made together,” he explained.

He called for unity and sustained collaboration between elected officials and the grassroots. “The journey remains ours. Let us continue building together,” he added.

Party leaders at the meeting praised his stewardship at the local government level, citing ongoing rural road grading, school renovations, and health outreach programs. A Ward 1 leader, who asked not to be named, said the chairman’s accessibility had strengthened the party’s base in Ayete.

Political observers say the meeting signals the start of early mobilization in Ibarapa North and Central Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The constituency, comprising two local government areas, is expected to be keenly contested.

Hon. Akorede urged members to remain loyal to the PDP and to continue grassroots engagement as the party prepares for future polls.
