It was a mild reaction during the plenary session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday as majority of the House of Representatives members publicly disgraced Dr. Zaccheaus Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The FIRS Chairman had accompanied six cabinet members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the Minister of Finance, Chief Adebayo Olawale Edun, Minister of Budget and Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi and Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Economic Planning to the hallow chamber on Tuesday to discuss issues of national importance.
Part of the issues cabinet members had come to address was the delay in payment for the projects executed by local contractors, resulting in the display of coffins at the Finance headquarters, as well as incessant debts in the country.
However, upon sighting the FIRS Chairman, the lawmakers started chanting “Zacch go out!” until he made his way out of the hallow chamber without allowing him to sit.
The irate members expressed their decision to chase out the FIRS Chairman was as a result of his blatant disregard for the National Assembly in most of the policies he had embarked on at the FIRS recently and even asked for his outright removal.
The plenary, which was held behind closed doors, did not end well for the FIRS Chairman, who was publicly disgraced. The members stressed that their voice represents those of over 200 million Nigerians who are angry at the FIRS chairman, whose policies are anti-people in all ramifications.
A source within the National Assembly also disclosed that President Tinubu is planning to roll over the 2025 budget to 2026, which simply means there won’t be a 2026 budget, a development which is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.
