In a bold move to advance environmental sustainability in Oyo State, Friends of Deji Ola (FOD), a prominent non-governmental organization, has unveiled a new eco-conscious initiative — the Pacesetter EcoTreasure Project (PEP). This innovative project aims to raise awareness and drive impactful change through effective sanitation, responsible waste management, and the promotion of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
At the heart of the project is a community-focused strategy that blends education, engagement, and economic incentives. A key component, the Trash for Value Exchange Program (TVEP), enables residents to exchange recyclable materials, such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper for cash rewards or eco-friendly products. This not only motivates sustainable behavior but also creates a circular economy model that benefits both people and the planet.
Speaking at the project unveiling, Prince Adeyemo Adedeji Ola, the visionary founder of FOD, emphasized that PEP is designed for long-term environmental impact. “This project is not a one-off campaign. It is a continuous drive to promote ecological health, improve sanitation standards, and contribute to a cleaner, greener Oyo State,” he said. “We are taking this campaign to the grassroots — schools, markets, and public spaces to ensure broad-based awareness and community ownership.”
Ola further acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Oyo State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, in championing environmental reforms. “Our sensitization efforts are intended to complement the state’s existing sanitation initiatives and bridge the gap in public awareness. Despite various governmental interventions, improper waste disposal remains prevalent. We believe that with the right education and incentives, this can change.”
He also called on individuals, corporate entities, and community leaders to support and partner with the initiative. “Sustainable development is a shared responsibility. We urge well-meaning Nigerians, environmental advocates, and stakeholders to join us in transforming waste into wealth and building a sustainable future for Oyo State.”
The PEP initiative is proudly supported by the Oyo State Government through the Office of the Special Assistant on Political Matters, Soke-Dowo, alongside private sector partners including DO-BUK Innovations and other eco-driven organizations.
As Oyo State continues to position itself as a leader in progressive governance and environmental sustainability, initiatives like the EcoTreasure Project serve as vital tools in fostering a culture of cleanliness, innovation, and ecological responsibility among its citizens.
