Ibadan South West Local Government Chairman, Honourable Kehinde Akande, on Thursday inspected the ongoing construction of the new Chairman’s Office Complex located within the council secretariat at Aleshinloye, Ibadan.

The Chairman, who was conducted round the project site by the council’s Director of Works, Engineer, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done so far. He said the new office complex became necessary to provide a befitting and functional administrative environment for the council’s leadership, noting that the current structure can no longer accommodate the expanding operations of the local government.

According to Hon. Akande, the complex, when completed, will house the Chairman’s office, executive room, and other adjoining offices designed to improve workflow and coordination among principal officers of the council. He stated that the project is part of his administration’s commitment to institutional strengthening and creating an enabling environment for effective service delivery to residents of Ibadan South West.

“This is not just about a building; it is about building capacity for governance. A proper administrative block will enhance productivity, ensure better record keeping, and provide a dignified space to receive our people and development partners,” Akande told journalists at the site. He added that the project is being executed with strict adherence to approved standards and will be delivered within the scheduled timeframe.

Workers at the site were seen plastering cement for the upper floor while electrical and plumbing fittings were being marked out on the ground floor. The Director of Works , Engr Demola Olona assured the Chairman that materials being used meet specifications and that safety protocols are being observed.
The council chairman was accompanied by his vice chairman , Honourable Tajudeen Adigun, Atu and Supervisory Councillors. Some council staff and residents who witnessed the inspection commended the Chairman for prioritizing infrastructure within the secretariat. Hon. Abiodun Alawuje, PDP leader from Popoyemoja, said a modern office complex would change the face of the council and motivate staff to perform better, Hon. Kazeem Adeokan also commended the chairman for his vision “If the head is working in a conducive place, the whole body will function well. We are happy our Chairman is thinking this way,” he said.
Hon. Akande reiterated that his administration remains focused on projects with direct impact on governance and the people. He listed road rehabilitation, primary healthcare upgrade, and education support as other areas receiving attention, assuring that the office complex project will not hinder other ongoing community interventions across the 12 wards of the local government.
The Chairman urged the work department to maintain the current pace without compromising quality and directed them to submit weekly progress reports.
