Ibarapa’s Got Talent: Celebrating Talents, Promoting Ibarapa and Showcasing Our Expectional Abilities to the World at Large.

Initiator: Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency

“It is always important to invest in young talents and talents of tomorrow.” Delphine Arnault

It is on the basis of this that Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju is leaving no stone unturned to turn our region into a talent hub and a breeding ground for people with exceptional abilities.

Having prioritised infrastructural development, job opportunities, accessible representation, legislative assignment, education of students in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency through the recognition of brilliantly performing students, payments of external examination fees for a definite number of excelling students, and extending scholarships and grants to brilliant students currently studying in our tertiary institutions of learning and those seeking admission into higher institutions has in no small measure helped ease the financial impediments to learning. Also, Hon. Adepoju’s healthy competition among senior secondary schools, such as a One-Day House of Representatives member, which makes the winner to preside over the federal constituency, witnessing the plenary session of the House of Representatives, getting monetary prizes, and other career-lifting offers, has encouraged academic competitiveness in our community and greatly improved the academic capabilities and ability of our leaders of tomorrow to compete among their contemporaries in other states of the federation and outside Nigeria. His free holiday lesson for both the public and private school students, the facilitation of more school buildings to help bridge the infrastructural deficit in our constituency’s academic environment, as he believes that a conducive learning environment is synonymous with the student’s ability to focus and improve. All these are strategic efforts that enhance the educational advancement of our beloved constituency, and the impact of them will be of great benefit for not just our constituency but Nigeria as a whole very soon.

Despite the aforementioned, Hon. Adebayo Adepoju is not oblivious to the incredible talents, creativity and potential that the good and prosperous people of Ibarapa Land possess, and by developing and projecting these numerous God-given talents, our community will become a force to reckon with when it comes to where talents are harnessed for growth and development. No man can do it alone; it takes a village. As a representative, we seek the support of all and sundry to actualise this dream envisioned in the interests of our collective development.

According to UNESCO, the global share of cultural and creative industries (CCIs) in GDP was 3% in 2015, which stood at $985 billion, but only 1.1% in Africa. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in 2020, disclosed that the global creative economy is worth $4.4 trillion, while Africa Creative Market in 2024 reported that the global creative sector is a $6 trillion economy, with Africa contributing only 1.4% ($81 billion)—indicating an untapped potential in the black continent of the world.

There are a lot of challenges facing creative industries in Africa, including but not limited to a lack of support from key stakeholders, a lack of accurate data, undervaluation, informal creative ways of doing things, limited investment, very weak intellectual property protection and inadequate integration into national development strategies. Despite the highlighted impediments confronting the creative industry in the black nation of the world, there are still numerous opportunities for growth, given Africa’s rich cultural heritage, young population, fast-growing digital exposure and vibrant God-given talents among the people of African content.

G20 report of June 2024 predicted that the creative economy will contribute 10% to global GDP by 2030, while Deloitte US Impact Report on the other hand, foresaw growth of up to 40% for the creative industry.

Dear constituents, we have a lot of opportunities lying around us, and the only good we can do for our generation and the yet unborn generations is to utilise what we have now to develop our community, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

Overview:

Ibarapa’s Got Talent (IGT) is yet another progress-focused initiative of Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency.

It is an effort put together after carrying out a holistic assessment of the untapped gifts that the people of Ibarapa are imbued with.

However, IGT is aimed at unearthing and showcasing the diverse talents that exist within the Ibarapa community, providing a platform for individuals to shine and showcase their inherent skills to a wider audience. By doing so, we hope to promote cultural heritage, entertainment and community engagement, ultimately contributing to the progress, growth and accelerated development of Ibarapa through very deliberate, systematic, sustainable, pragmatic, inclusive, synergistic and collaborative efforts to bring those things to the limelight.

Objectives:

The objectives of IGT include, but are not limited to: (i.) We intend to provide a platform for talented individuals to demonstrate their skills, be it singing, dancing, comedy, magic, stunts, making people do what ordinarily they won’t do, speed reading, repairing things, or any other form of entertainment.

(ii.) We seek to promote the rich cultural heritage of Ibarapa by projecting the unique traditions and customs that make our community so special and distinguishing.

(iii.) We are also looking forward to entertaining the community and the world at large, bringing people from across diverse groups together through the power of music, dance, performance and other forms of creativity.

Target Audience:

Our target audience is the talented indigenous people who call Ibarapa home. We invite singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and all kinds of performers to participate in this innovative initiative geared at showing the world what we are made up of as a people. We want to see your talent; the world wants to see you with those great abilities you have possessed despite numerous limiting factors.

IGT is open to individuals aged 10-45. We believe that this age range allows for a diverse range of participants, from young and upcoming talents to more experienced performers. This age range also allows for a mix of students, working professionals and entrepreneurs to participate, making the competition more interesting and diverse.

Registration for Ibarapa’s Got Talent will be done both offline and online, through our constituency office, website and other social media platforms. Modality for participation will be communicated soon. The registration process will be simple and straightforward, and our team will be available to assist with any question or concern.

We know quite alright that our community is a place where numerous talents thrive, and we are going to do everything possible to promote those skills, for everything that is good also needs promotion. However, the auditions for Ibarapa’s Got Talent will be held in various known locations across Ibarapa Land, including community halls, schools and other public venues. Our panel of judges will select the top performers based on their talent and creativity. The auditions will be open to the public, and we encourage community members to come and support their favourite performers, who will make it to the live episodes, which will be attended by influencers and dignitaries from Nigeria and top countries of the world.

Our panellists will comprise experts in various fields of creativity and entertainment. They will be looking for talented performers who demonstrate exceptional skill, creativity and showmanship. We will announce our panel of judges soon. We are confident that they will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the competition and make us achieve the overall objective of the initiative.

Also, exceptional performers selected through the auditions will compete in live episodes, which will be held at a designated venue in Ibarapa, possibly the centre of the region. The live episodes will be anchored by renowned presenters in Nigeria and will feature a variety of performances and special guest appearances. The audience will vote for their favourite acts, and the performer with the most votes in different categories will win different prizes that will be published soon.

To achieve this, we are planning to partner with DSTV, GOTV, all National Televisions in the country, Ministry of Art, Culture, Entertainment and Information in Oyo State and other states in Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Art and Culture at the federal level, NGOs, international organisations domiciled in Africa, and the like overseas, so that the talented people from the event can get the needed support and recognition to excel in life.
