The National Association of Women Journalists, Oyo State Chapter (NAWOJ), recently met with the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to discuss ways to promote girl-child education and address related issues in the basic education sub-sector. The meeting, held at the Oyo SUBEB office, was a testament to the power of unity and collective action in achieving common goals.
Led by the newly appointed Chairperson, Mrs. Omolola Alamu, the NAWOJ delegation was received by the Chairman of Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran. The discussion centered on fostering a collaborative relationship between NAWOJ and Oyo SUBEB, leveraging their shared passion for education and journalism to drive positive change and empower the girl-child.
The meeting highlighted the importance of girl-child education and the need for collective efforts to address the challenges facing girls in the basic education sub-sector. The two sides discussed strategies to promote gender equality, increase girls’ enrollment and retention in schools, and address related issues such as child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence.
